Methadone: A synthetic medication, methadone is championed for its ability to control drug cravings and stop intense withdrawal symptoms in their tracks. Unlike other opioids, methadone does not produce a high when taken. Considered an opioid agonist, methadone is highly effective in treating opioid addiction.

Subutex: With buprenorphine as the primary ingredient, Subutex can lessen withdrawal symptoms and cravings to continue use drugs, such as heroin or prescription painkillers. Subutex is a partial opioid agonist-antagonist, and can cease all negative effects of opioids within a person’s brain.

Suboxone: Like Subutex, Suboxone contains buprenorphine, however it also contains naloxone. With these two ingredients working together, Suboxone is able to stop withdrawal symptoms and help curb drug cravings. Keep in mind that if an individual chooses to abuse other opioids while taking Suboxone, withdrawal symptoms can develop.

Vivitrol: Vivitrol is offered via injection and on a once per month basis. Containing naltrexone, Vivitrol stops drug cravings and withdrawal symptoms. In addition, it is a non-narcotic and non-addictive.
